Our intention
What do the Bosniaks, the Hui people of China, the Harari of Ethiopia and the Cham people of Cambodia have in common?
Living as minorities far from the major centres of Islamic civilisation, they have found creative ways to preserve their faith and identity. Since 2015, our team has travelled to meet them and reveal the cultural mosaic of Islamic civilisation.

Harar, the Forgotten Islamic City
Ethiopia, the country that welcomed the first Hijra, is home to the fortified city of Harar. Behind its five gates, along streets lined with hundreds of mosques, Islamic symbolism is everywhere. Once a centre of Islamic influence in East Africa, Harar inspires wonder through its manuscripts, traditions and stories. Now a minority, the Harari are fighting for the survival of their heritage.
This series is produced independently. Supporting this release allows the project to continue and to tell new stories.
