Road to Sarajevo
Synopsis
Nearly twenty-five years after the conflict that tore the Balkans apart, the future of young Bosnians still seems to be at a standstill. An uncertain economic transition, political deadlock, corruption and lingering ethnic tensions: the scars of Europe's deadliest conflict since the Second World War remain deeply visible.
Although the country's ethnic partition is now a reality, the hope and tolerance embodied by Bosnia's youth remind us that Sarajevo is still the Jerusalem of Europe. Since independence, the revival of a balanced Bosnian Islam has emerged as a safeguard against the return of outdated nationalist ideas—an inspiring relationship with faith.
